Women’s Premier League (WPL) Teams and Players list
The Women’s Premier League (WPL) is all set for its second season as the five franchises are keen to deliver yet another brilliant year of franchise cricket. Five franchises, namely Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, and UP Warriorz, will battle it out to get their hands on the coveted title.

The inaugural season of the tournament was won by Mumbai Indians under Harmanpreet Kaur after dominant showings throughout the competition. They defeated Delhi Capitals women in the summit clash of the competition to clinch the inaugural title and create history.

A plethora of stars from women’s cricket will feature in the upcoming edition of the WPL but before that, the teams will build their squads at the mini-auction ahead of the tournament. A total of 165 players will go under the hammer, with a maximum of 30 slots to be filled. The number of overseas slots is nine. Meanwhile, of the total 165, 104 are Indians while the remaining 64 are overseas, of which 15 players from the associate nations. The total number of capped players are 56, while 109 are uncapped.

While the BCCI is yet to announce the dates of the second edition, it is expected to start on February 10 and end in the first week of March 2024.

The 2024 Women’s Premier League (also known as WPL 2024 and branded as TATA WPL 2024) is the ongoing second season of the Women’s Premier League, a women’s franchise Twenty20 cricket league organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The tournament, featuring five teams, is being held from 23 February to 17 March 2024.

Mumbai Indians are the defending champions.

Background
Format
Five teams are scheduled to play in 2024. The tournament involves each team playing every other team twice in a home-and-away, double round-robin format. After the double round-robin league, the top three teams qualify for the playoffs based on aggregate points. The team with the highest points will automatically qualify for the final match. The second and third-placed teams will compete with each other (in a match titled “Eliminator”). The winner of the Eliminator match will move on to the final match.

Schedule
The schedule of the first phase of the IPL 2024 was announced on 24 January 2024. The opening match of the tournament was played between the defending champions Mumbai Indians and the Delhi Capitals on 23 February 2024 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. The final match will be played on 17 March 2024 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.

Broadcasting
Sports18 will be the TV broadcaster, while Jio Cinema will be the digital broadcaster for the upcoming season.

Opening ceremony
The opening ceremony took place on 23 February at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, with Shah Rukh Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Kartik Aaryan, Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra and Tiger Shroff performing.

A total of 60 players were retained by their respective teams from the previous season.
